If you’re ever in doubt about what beverage to serve for New Year’s Eve, you can’t go wrong with champagne. It’s low in calories, puts everyone in the mood to celebrate and who doesn’t love the sound of pop and fizz! Bubbles seem to be the perfect way to end the year, so raise your glasses one last time this year and ring in 2015 with one of these delicious champagne cocktails.

Champagne Cocktail – The champagne shines through in this classic ~ with a hint of added flavor from spirits, bitters and citrus peel.

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 6+ shakes of Angostura bitters
  • Champagne
  • Lemon or orange peel twist, for garnish

Soak sugar cube in bitters and drop into glass. Top with champagne and garnish with lemon peel.

Kir Royale – The Kir Royale is a swanky champagne and cream de cassis (black currant) cocktail that looks and tastes great. This cocktail can be served year-round.

  • 1/2 oz. Creme de Cassis
  • Champagne
  • Lemon twist or blackberries, for garnish

Fill flute with champagne, top with creme de cassis and garnish.

Limoncello Sparkler – This sparkling cocktail gets an added dose of sweetness and sun thanks to a splash of limoncello. The recipe comes from Kim Haasarud’s book, 101 Champagne Cocktails.

  • 1 oz. Limoncello
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • Champagne
  • Lemon peel twist, for garnish

Combine the limoncello and Cointreau in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a champagne flute. Top with champagne and garnish.



Most days of the week have a bit of a reputation. Nobody really likes a Monday, everyone loves a Friday and we have Hump Day Wednesday and now Throwback Thursday. Here at Gidget + LaRue we’ve decided to take over Tuesday. Give Tuesday a little love and respect for the fun day of the week it can be. Throughout the summer we’re going to help you see Tuesdays in a different light by launching TiKi TUESDAY!

To get started we are launching with an iconic TiKi cocktail, the MAI TAI. The creation of the Mai Tai happened in Oakland, CA in 1944 by Victor Bergeron, otherwise known as Trader Vic. The name of the drink was unexpectedly introduced by a group of guests from Tahiti, when they exclaimed “Mai Tai – Roa Ae”, which means “Out of This World – The Best”. And that is how the Mai Tai was born and that’s how we’re kicking off TiKi Tuesday. Let’s get shakin’!

TOOLS :: Shaker
GLASS :: Double Old Fashioned
EXTRAS ::  Lime wedge & Mint for garnish {+ a paper umbrella if you’re feeling extra TiKi!}
SERVINGS :: 1 cocktail

½ oz fresh squeezed lime juice {NO Roses Lime here ~ go fresh or forget it}
2 oz. Aged Rum *
½ oz. Orgeat syrup {otherwise known as Almond syrup ~ Torani’s is great}
½ oz. Orange Curacao
¼ oz. Simple Syrup
2 C. crushed ice

Add ice to shaker. Add all liquid ingredients. Shake it like you mean it! You need to really blend those ingredients together, so shake for about a minute. Pour shaker contents into cocktail glass without straining. Garnish with lime wedge or wheel and mint sprig. Make sure to give the mint sprig a good slap on the palm of your hand before adding to the cocktail to release the aroma and flavor.

A quick tip about making an original Mai Tai :: When made properly, a Mai Tai has a deep amber hue because it’s the color of the Rum that should dominate the drink, not the sweeteners. In other words, a true original Mai Tai shouldn’t be orange.

NOTE :: There are so many excellent Aged Rums out there on the market and many are worth adding to your home bar. If you don’t have an aged Rum handy and have a hankering for a good Mai Tai, you can always swap out 1 oz each of Gold Rum + Dark Rum in place of the Aged Rum. 


We’ve decided that there is no better way to enjoy the 4th of July than celebrating our independence surrounded by friends, family and a delicious cocktail. Get into that patriotic spirit with these five freedom cocktails to help you raise a glass and give a toast to America the beautiful!

White wine lovers tend to enjoy the fresh citrus and fruit flavors often found in summer wines. Made with lemons, oranges and limes with a hint of rich Brandy, this sangria captures all those summertime flavors. As a host, you’ll love this make-ahead recipe since it is a self-serve punch your guests can enjoy pouring on their own.

Star Spangled Sangria
If you want to get your 4th of July party started with a little red, white and booze, mix up a batch of this delish sangria. Your guests will be whistling Dixie before the fireworks even start.


Tools :: Pitcher, tall barspoon
Glass :: Highball
Servings :: 6 cocktails

Ingredients ::
1 bottle of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier or Pinot Gris are all good choices)
1/3 cup white sugar
3 oranges, 1 lemon, 1 lime and 1 Granny Smith apple, all sliced
4 oz. Brandy
½ liter of Club Soda or Ginger ale (for those with a sweeter tooth!)

Directions ::
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the orange, lemon and lime into the wine. Add brandy and sugar, stirring to combine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible). Chill mixture overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.

Before you shop :: Sangria is all about adapting the recipe with fruit that you enjoy. Try adding diced mango, cubed pineapples, sliced strawberries, peaches, a handful of fresh blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, a shot or two of pineapple juice or even a little spiced rum!
